Delhi government forwards high court staffers pay hike proposal to Centre
Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday decided to forward a proposal regarding revision in pay scales and other allowances of Delhi high court staff to Ministries of Home Affairs and Finance for approval.
Following directions of the Registrar General of Delhi high court, the law department of Delhi government has prepared a proposal to raise salary and allowances for the Delhi high court's staff in par with Parliamentary allowances being given to the employees of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats.
According to sources Delhi Cabinet preferred to refer the matter to the Union ministries of Home Affairs and Finance for their Comment.
According to the proposal, court allowances of group A officials will be Rs 4,000 per month, while group B employees will be entitled to Rs 3,200 per month. Group C employees will get Rs 2,400 per month, while Rs 1,600 has been pegged for group D.
The administrative and general supervision committee comprising chief justice and judges of high court had earlier decided that to grant court allowances of judicial officers and officials of high court with effect from 1 January 2006. Besides, pay structure of Delhi high court employees was not considered by the Sixth pay Commission. There are 602 employees in Delhi high court and monthly financial implication is estimated Rs 17,38,400.
According the proposal of the law department and the finance department, Parliament and Delhi high court are different constitutional institutions and, therefore, both cannot be compared. Neither are duties of employees of both these institutions comparable.
