Delhi Gate to Tura Mandi: Traffic route to be redirected for a year for metro construction

Update: 2015-05-25 00:12 GMT
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday, said that the traffic movement from Delhi Gate to Tura Mandi in the Najafgarh area will be diverted via the Najafgarh-Nangloi Road for a period of one year with effect from Monday to facilitate construction work for the underground station at Najafgarh.

The construction work for the station will start soon near the Delhi Gate junction of Najafgarh, using the cut and cover technology.

Thus, one side of <g data-gr-id="26">carriage way</g> of the main Najafgarh Road near Delhi Gate will have to be excavated since there is severe space constraint in that area. The same will be restored and <g data-gr-id="27">re-constructed</g> after the completion of the work,” the DMRC said.

Light motor vehicles coming from the Delhi Gate side will be able to take a diversion via the Santoshi Mata Mandir near the Najafgarh-Nangloi Road to reach Tura Mandi. The diverted road has been repaired for the convenience of the commuters by DMRC and will be maintained till this diversion is in place, according to the DMRC.

However, the main Najafgarh Road will be closed for traffic for these vehicles. The heavy vehicles (heavy motor vehicles) <g data-gr-id="30">plying</g> in the area will have to take the Najafgarh Nala Road via Rajiv Ratna Awas from the Najafgarh-Nangloi Road to reach Dwarka Mor.

Traffic marshals, lighting and relevant signals will be put up at important locations to effectively manage the flow of traffic. Trial runs of this diversion plan have been carried out successfully and the same has been approved by the Delhi Traffic Police.

The Dwarka-Najafgarh section of the Metro is a <g data-gr-id="24">4.4 kilometre</g> long stretch with three elevated stations – Dwarka, Nangli and Najafgarh. The section is slated to open by 2017.
