Update: 2013-10-16 00:53 GMT
The Congress party has flayed allegations by Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel on the food bill, health concerns and transport infrastructure in the region. The government on Tuesday fielded two senior ministers- Raj Kumar Chauhan and Haroon Yusuf to issue a point to point rebuttal to Goel’s charges.

‘Vijay Goel is unaware of the Food Security Bill that gives 50 percent urban households across India subsidised food to secure all households, irrespective of their economic condition or level of food security. His lack of programme knowledge is appalling,’ said Yusuf, food and civil supplies minister in Delhi government.

‘BJP governments in Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh providing the facility to over 90 percent of the population in their states,’ he added.

The ministers dared to compare Delhi’s power tariff to BJP ruled states. They dared the BJP to first reduce power tariff in BJP ruled states like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh before blaming Delhi government for 300 percent increase in power tariff.

‘Goel has crossed all limits of distorting facts. The increase in unit rates has been between 50-172 percent, and not the 300 percent he claims,’ said Chauhan, Delhi public works department minister.  ‘The subsidy is directed to consumers and not to power distributing companies’, added Chauhan, flaying the allegations made by Goel. The ministers claimed that over 91 percent of budgetary allocation was spent in 2012-13.

On health services, the ministers claimed that Delhi government has constructed 21 new hospitals, over 60 new dispensaries, increased life expectancy to second highest in India, and lowered death rate.

On transport infrastructure, Yusuf said, ‘The buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are constantly upgraded, and we have taken the fleet from below 3000 to 6,000 new buses, with another 6000 under cluster scheme. There are 6,000 Gramin services, Metro running on 194 km.’ The ministers innumerated Delhi government’s good deeds in various departments including social schemes and flayed the claims of Goel.
