Persons with disability will now be able to travel free in all the buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) – Air Conditioned and Non Air Conditioned — and also in private operated cluster buses. This was decided in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. “The Delhi Cabinet approved the free travel facilities to person suffering from any disability in accordance with Disabilities Act in AC & Non-AC buses of DTC and cluster scheme,” said Gopal Rai, Delhi Transport minister. So far, the people with disability were provided passes for non-AC buses only. “The plight of the people with disability can well be understood once they are on the bus stop but cannot board an AC bus as they were till now having passes only for non-AC buses. Now, with the extension, they can board the AC buses too,” added Rai. Presently, there are 6,055 buses under DTC out of which 4,555 are operated by DTC itself while 1,500 are cluster buses. Out of these 6,055, there are 1,275 AC buses in the city. The government has also planned to increase the number of AC buses in the near future.
