Delhi BJP may get its first woman chief

Update: 2016-01-25 23:03 GMT
Women leaders may this time stake claim for the post of Delhi BJP president, keeping in view that the city unit has never been headed by a woman as of now.

An undercurrent in this regard is already being felt, sources said, though there is a likelihood of present president Satish Upadhyay being given another term to head the BJP Delhi unit. The names New Delhi MP Meenakashi Lekhi, former Delhi mayor Rajni Abbi, state vice-president Shikha Rai and general secretary Rekha Gupta, are doing rounds as contenders for the post of president, a party insider said.

Sources said the process for the election of new Delhi BJP chief will pick up pace with Amit Shah being elected as the party’s national president for a second term on Sunday.

Names of party leaders, other than Upadhyay, including those from Delhi BJP as well as the party’s national executive, have also come up.
