Delhi is slated to get a new rail terminal at Bijwasan. In his rail budget speech, Railway Minister P K Bansal announced to conduct feasibility studies for terminal at Bijwasan in the next financial year.
In the budget, Delhi has bagged 12 new trains, an Memu train and a Demu train. Besides, it will be benefited with the extension of route of 10 out of the 14 trains and six out of seven trains, whose frequency has been increased. The new railway terminal in south-west Delhi would be the sixth rail terminal in the national capital city after Delhi, New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Sarai Rohilla and Anand Vihar terminals.
According to senior officials of Northern Railway, the upcoming rail terminal would connect Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir with trains and would help in reducing rail traffic at over-crowded Delhi and New Delhi railway stations.
Besides this, the rail minister also announced electrification of diesel railway line – Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Rewari, Palanpur -Ahmedabad. After electrification of this route, Delhi would take a stride in a new era in providing environment-friendly rail service to its commuters and diesel rail engines would be a thing of past. In addition, the rail minister also allocated Rs 100 crore to augment infrastructure and revamp the facilities at Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.
In the budget, the city has got a new railway line to connect Delhi with Alwar in Rajasthan via Sohna, Nuh and Firozpur Jhirka. The rail minister also announced to conduct a survey to connect Dadri in National Capital Region (NCR) with Narora in Buland Shahar. Dadri is a city of coal-based power stations while Narora is a city of nuclear power station. This route will connect Sikandarabad, Bulandshahar, Jahangirabad and Anoopshahar. One more survey has been planned to connect Dadri with Jharli via Jhajjar.
The government, with a view to ensure security of women passengers, has also decided to set up eight companies of women RAF personnel in addition to 10 per cent reservation for women in recruitment of RAF personnel.
