The body of an unidentified man was on Monday found at the site of the just-concluded World Culture Festival on the Yamuna floodplains here, police said.

The body, which was found in a highly-decomposed state, was not there when the entire area was scanned after the three-day cultural extravaganza organised by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Foundation came to an end on Sunday night.

It was spotted by some labourers today morning, a senior police official said.

“The highly-decomposed body is suspected to have been brought down by river current to the floodplains here,” the official said, adding that the details in this regard have been uploaded on the zonal integrated police network system.

The cause of death can be confirmed only by post-mortem, the official added.

The three-day World Culture Festival, Art of Living Foundation’s event, which took place in the national capital as planned after being clouded by legal hassles drew to a close on Sunday. While the event was widely criticised even before it took off due to the venue selection, usage of armed forces for construction work and initial denial to pay fine to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for environment degradation that the event would cause, rains played spoilsports for many.

Brickbats also followed afterwards on Monday as social media was abuzz with discussions on the issue.
