Dealer tries to deliver drugs through courier, held

A drug dealer tried to get innovative on Tuesday when he delivered a consignment of contraband through a private courier company. The Ghaziabad Police, however, foiled the attempt and seized 23 kilogrammes of marijuana in the Kaushambi area.

The police have arrested a driver Amit Pal and an assistant manager Parmesh Tyagi of DTDC Courier and Cargo Ltd. The police sources say that they raided the company duo with the help of excise and sales tax department on a tip-off.

An officer from the department said, ‘The duo opted for transporting marijuana in courier packets to fool authorities and safely deliver it. In a joint operation by all departments, the hunt was launched in the area and a vehicle of the courier company was stopped for checking, and marijuana wrapped in cloth was found in courier boxes.’

 During the investigation, the police found that courier was sent by Goukle Nande Nayak from Cuttack in Orissa to Sunil Kumar of Rahul Vihar in Ghaziabad. The police raided Kumar’s house but could not find him. The circle officer of the Indirapuram area Rakesh Pandey said, ‘In two courier packets, 23 kg of marijuana was recovered and courier company employees have been booked under the NDPS Act for smuggling of the prohibited drug. The hunt is on for the person whose name and address is mentioned on the courier packet.’
