Life came to a standstill for the Menon family with the murder of its youngest member, Rajatkrishnan (15). Rajat was beaten to death by two juveniles over a trivial issue. Rajat went on a scooty with his three friends. The last time he rode the maroon scooty still stands outside the tea kiosk.

Natives of Palakkad, Kerala, Unnikrishnan Menon shifted to Mayur Vihar Phase III two years back with his wife, Krishna, elder son Rajeev and youngest son Rajat. Students of Salwan Public School said both the siblings are known to be diligent, laborious and well spoken.

Relatives and neighbours share how Rajat was a bright student. One of Rajat’s friend said he wanted to become a astronaut. Apart from an interest in Science, he was good in football and cricket.

Talking to Millennium Post, Shankaran, a neighbour and a close friend of Rajat’s father said: “He was a very smart child. It was once when he and his elder brother Rajeev returned from school that Rajeev was ringing the door bell relentlessly. To this, Rajat answered, “Brother, learn some patience!” Beaten to death by two juveniles over a trivial issue, scores of neighbours and relatives based in Delhi gathered at the Sunshine Apartments for the last glance of Rajat. His body was brought back in the evening from the Lal Bahadur Shatri hospital mortuary.

Once the body was taken inside the house, wrapped in white, it was placed on banana leaves after which it was brought down by the parents and finally placed on a crematorium pedestal after which neighbours and relatives went around the body.

While police have apprehended the two juveniles, the locals from the market in Mayur Vihar phase III allegedly damaged the tea kiosk. Policemen had been posted at the market to control the tense situation.
