The state remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported, officials said.Chautala, Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, on Tuesday said his party favoured that reservation given to Jats and five other communities should be maintained.
He that he would visit Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind and Kaithal districts, where agitating Jats have been holding dharnas for the past 10 days, on Wednesday.
“Right from the beginning, we doubted the intent of the government in giving reservation to Jats and five other communities, which is why the matter has got stuck in the courts,” Chautala said.
Talking abut the agitation, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the issue could be sorted through mutual dialogue. He said administrative officers had started a dialogue with the agitators and it was appreciable that they were prepared for talks.
“A meeting with their leaders was fixed for June 15, but now it would be held on June 17 on request made by them,” he said.He said with regard to reservation, an Act was enacted.
“Though the issue is with the High Court, efforts are being made to get the stay vacated,” he said, adding the state government was vigorously defending the case in the court.
