D Bandyopadhyay is new Director (HR), Bhel

On his appointment as Director on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (<g data-gr-id="22">Bhel</g>), D Bandyopadhyay (56), has assumed charge as Director (Human Resource) of the Maharatna Public Sector engineering and manufacturing enterprise.

 Prior to this, he was Executive Director, Human Resource & Corporate Communication (HR&CC), dealing with various functions of HR, Management Services, CSR, IT and CC. Before taking over as ED (HR&CC), Bandyopadhyay was heading the company’s Power Sector - Southern Region (PSSR) construction division in Chennai, as Executive Director.

 An Electrical Engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Bandyopadhyay joined <g data-gr-id="23">Bhel</g> as an Engineer Trainee in 1981. He has more than 33 years of diversified and versatile professional experience of work encompassing strategic as well as operational management areas in various capacities in <g data-gr-id="24">Bhel</g>, including power projects in India and abroad.

 Under his leadership, the company’s Power Sector - Southern Region achieved its highest ever turnover with all-round growth in Value Added and Profit Before Tax. 

He also led PSSR to achieve the <g data-gr-id="29">highest ever</g> capacity addition of 4518.5 <g data-gr-id="27">mw</g>, that enabled <g data-gr-id="28">Bhel</g> to exceed the Ministry of Power’s capacity addition target for 2014-15 by 19%. To meet the challenges of reduced time cycle of projects, he led a team of creative engineers to introduce new initiatives like Project Planning module, PEMS etc in Power Sector. <g data-gr-id="44">Further</g> he was instrumental in implementing Standardised Material Handling Package for the first time in the power sector. 

 Bandyopadhyay has a rich experience of executing a number of power projects of <g data-gr-id="25">Bhel’s</g> Power Sector as well as Industrial Sector <g data-gr-id="26">averticals</g> in addition to four overseas projects. He was a key member of the team that successfully executed three consecutive EPC projects of PDO, Oman. 

The completion of these projects on time, which also demanded implementation of very high standards of safety and quality, enabled <g data-gr-id="21">Bhel</g> to secure further overseas orders for Gas Turbines.
