A Delhi court on Tuesday extended till 5 March 5 the judicial custody of a man arrested for attempting to rape a girl and shoving an iron rod into her mouth.
Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh Rawat extended custody of 25-year-old Anil Kumar, who on 4 February attempted to rape and murder the Class XI girl after trespassing into her house in south Delhi.
Kumar, who was working with a local power distribution company, was arrested Feb 5, after the family members of the girl registered a case against him.
As per the police, Kumar had come to the house of the girl in Lajpat Nagar area to collect monthly electricity dues. As the the girl knew him, she let him in.
Finding the woman alone, he tried to rape her and inserted an iron rod inside her mouth when she was crying for help, added the police.
The victim sustained severe injuries in her mouth and the attempted strangulation had left bruises all around her neck.
