Dreaded criminal Jitendra Ghoghi, lodged in the Tihar Jail reportedly escaped from the custody of the 3rd Battalion officers of the Delhi Armed Police (DAP) while he was being taken to a local court in Jind district for hearing in a Haryana Roadways bus in the early morning hours on Saturday. Ghogi was being taken to the court for a murder case in Narwana police station.

Sources said that the incident took place at around 6.15 am when four officers of the 3rd Battalion tasked with ferrying Ghogi were allegedly intercepted by a group of ten associates of Ghogi who came in two cars. They allegedly intercepted the Haryana Roadways bus in such a way that the bus was surrounded by the two cars. Few of them  then entered the bus and went at the back of the bus where Ghogi was seated. They allegedly splashed red chilli powder on the eyes of the cops of the 3rd Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police (DAP).

Sources also added the people who had come to rescue Ghogi from the police custody also took away an MP-5 pistol, a Glock and 20 rounds of cartridges from the officers of the 3rd Battalion.
It is worth mentioning that in August 2015, the 3rd Battalion, who is tasked to ferry prisoners and under-trial convicts came under the under scanner when a group of seven under-trial prisoners brutally thrashed two prisoners, Pradeep and Paras, as they were attacked by their rival gang, the attack being led by Neeraj Bawana.

Meanwhile, sources added that the three cops who were part of the security of Ghogi have been reportedly suspended and a departmental enquiry has been set up against them.

Sources said that Ghogi, accused of murder and attempt to murder in Delhi and Haryana, was serving term in connection with a murder case in North-west delhi’s Mahendra Park area. Ghogi had carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest.

Meanwhile, several teams from the Crime Branch, Special Cell have been formed to investigate the matter.
