DAY OF MURDER, MYSTERY AND GORE...

Three murders were reported from three different areas of the city during the past 24 hours.

This includes the killing of a woman by her in-laws over a water-sharing dispute. The three murders were reported from from Bharat Nagar, Bindapur and Miyanwali Nagar.

In the first incident, a 23-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her father-in-law and two brothers-in-laws at Wazirpur JJ Colony in northwest Delhi on Thursday morning. The  brawl that claimed her life  was triggered over the issue of using water from a public tap, police claimed.

'The incident took place around 8 am and the deceased’s husband also suffered minor knife injuries as he attempted to save her from his family’s wrath, ' a police official said.

The deceased was identified as Mumtaz and she lived with her husband, Mohammad Mukhtiyar and two children in J-III block in JJ Colony. Her in-laws have been arrested and a case of murder registered against them.

The arrested were identified as Roshan Khan, the victim’s father in-law, and her two brothers-in-law, Bobby and Mohammad Shakil alias Babloo.

A senior police officer said the dispute started between Mumtaz and Bobby over the issue of using water from a public tap installed outside their house. After the dispute, Mumtaz made a call to the police control room, but the cops left after negotiating a compromise in the issue.

The in-laws however, wanted to teach her a lesson and Roshan and Bobby overpowered her while Babloo brought a knife from the kitchen and repeatedly stabbed her.

When Mukhtiyar, her husband tried to come to her rescue, he was also stabbed.

In the second incident, a 35-year-old cable operator died while three of his family members, including his wife, suffered critical injuries after a group of men allegedly barged into their house in the Bindapur area and attacked them with swords and iron rods late on Wednesday night.

Police said political rivalry between two parties was the prime motive behind the attack. According to police, the incident was reported to them at around 11.30 pm from the Nandram Park locality and the deceased was identified as Hari Raj.

A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Bindapur police station and two of the attackers, identified as Sanjeev and Pritam, have been arrested.

Police are looking for the other accused, who is said to be a resident of the same area and is at present absconding.

A senior police officer said that both groups were supporters of two different political parties.

In a recently concluded municipal election, Hari Raj and his family members had passed filthy remarks on the party’s symbol and candidate of the political party which the second group was supporting.

This had resulted in a serious argument between the two groups. A couple of days back, the victim had also had an argument with the other group over a plot of land, the officer said.

In the third incident 24-year-old Premi was beaten to death by unknown assailants while he was returning home from work. He lived in the Data Nagar area and the incident took place near his house, a police officer said.

'The incident was reported to the police around 9 pm on Wednesday by some passersby. Premi was found lying on the road in a pool of blood.

He was taken to a nearby hospital but died during treatment.

A murder case has been registered at Miyanawali Nagar Police station and investigation has been initiated in the case,' the officer said.

SPEEDING SCHOOL VAN MOWS DOWN 9-YEAR-OLD

A nine-year-old boy lost his life after being allegedly hit by a speeding school van near Nawada Metro station in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur on Thursday morning. The deceased, Mohammad Sarfaraz, was a student of Class IV in an MCD school.

‘The accident took place around 7.20 am and the boy was crossing the road when he was mowed down by the speeding school van. Sarfaraz lived with his parents and three siblings at a rented accommodation in Nawada village,’ said a police officer.

GANG OF FIVE HELD FOR KILLING ELDERLY DUO

Five people, including a juvenile, have been arrested in connection with the sensational double murder case that took place on Tuesday in the Rohini area, when two elderly women were stabbed to death when they resisted the robbery  at their respective houses.

The accused, identified as Rusy, 22, Rajesh, 25, Ravinder, 21, Mahesh, 20, and a juvenile, were arrested from their hideouts in Mangolpuri and Rohini.

'Rajesh, who is the leader of the gang, and Rusy and Ravinder were apprehended the same day and they had also confessed their involvement in the crime. Based on information provided by them, the two other were arrested,’ said T S Luthra, Joint Commissioner of Police (northern range).

Luthra also said that all the accused were involved in more than one criminal case. Three stolen silver coins, two ATM cards and the blood stained clothes that the accused were wearing when the crime was committed have been recovered from their possession.

Two elderly women, residents of the same colony in Delhi, were stabbed to death by the accused on Tuesday. Shanti Devi, 65, and Rasham Rani, 67, who resided barely 500 metres away from each other in sector-3 of west Delhi's Rohini South, were killed by the group.

PRIME ACCUSED IN WOODLAND CASE GIVES POLICE THE SLIP

The prime suspect in the Woodland DGM’s murder case, managed to give Ghaziabd police a slip in an encounter on Wednesday morning. In an interesting twist in the case, he later surrendered in court. However, senior officers are tight lipped on the matter and preparing papers to get his custody. According to the police the suspect, Manoj Pandit has been involved in more than five murder cases within a period of one and half months.

Highly placed sources within the police said that the accused was almost nabbed  by a team of Ghaziabad police lead by staff from the Loni Police Station at around 8.00 am near Chirouli village. However, he escaped the police net amid firing from both the sides. He then left the police team engaged in a search operation and directly landed in Ghaziabad Court. The manner and circumstances in which the accused has surrendered in court raises doubt over police functioning.

The police don't have any proof of his involvement in DGM Ankit Sharma's murder but is focussing on it as the gang is believed to have been involved in most of the murders in the area in recent times. 'It seems like the work of contract killers. The employees sacked by Ankit Sharma, have not provided any crucial information. We are now investigating the involvement of contract killers in Ghaziabad and nearby districts,' said Gorakhnath Yadav, Inspector In-charge of Indirapuram police station.  Sharma was shot dead by two assailants at his residence on the morning of 20 July. So, far the police has neither arrested anybody nor could it identify any person involved in the daring daylight murder.

According to sources police is planning to apply for the custody of Manoj Pandit in connection with the murder of the Woodland DGM. Pandit has allegedly been involved in at least four murders in the Tran-Yamuna area. 'We have some evidences against Manoj Pandit and gathering more proofs to apply for his custody,' said a senior police official. However, the police would have to provide the court with crucial evidence against him to be granted his custody. The police has so far not even been able to make the sketches of the culprits.

Manoj Pandit (25) is said to be the right hand man of Prashant Sharma from the same locality. The gang committed its first murder on 23 June when Sharma shot dead his own wife whom he had married against the wishes of his parents. On 24 June they shot dead one Dilip Matho in the Indirapuram area.

Sharma was arrested by the police and sent for medical treatment after being identified as a psycho killer. He is presently in jail and being treated for mental disorder. Besides his wife he had killed his two neighbours and even tried to kill his own mother.

BOY HELPS COPS SOLVE MURDER CASE

A 11-year-old boy has helped Delhi police in solving the kidnapping-cum-murder case of the 25-year-old son of a property dealer, police said on Thursday. Four people, including a woman, have been arrested in the case.

The boy, whose identity has not been revealed, provided crucial clues in the incident as he witnessed the accused setting the victim on fire. Abhay Diwan, 27, his wife Mahima Diwan, 25, Jatin, 24, and Runeet, 20, were arrested on Wednesday for killing Shivam Kapoor, resident of Malka Ganj in north Delhi on 17 July.

Kapoor was found in a semi-burnt condition lying near the bank of canal in north Delhi's Pitampura area on 18 July. 'During investigation police came to know that the last time the victim was seen, he was  with his friend Runeet,' T S Luthra, Joint Commissioner of Police said. Runeet was apprehended and he revealed the name of his partners in crime. During interrogation Abhay Diwan, the master mind in the crime, revealed that he incurred a loss of Rs 70 lakhs in gambling.

'To clear his debts, he, with the help of Runeet, kidnapped Kapoor for ransom,' police said Abhay had told  his interrogators. But the plan went horribly wrong and Abhay shot the victim in his abdomen when he tried to resist the kidnap attempt, Luthra said.

'Abhay Diwan is a property dealer. The financial condition of Jatin was also not good.

However, Gulati wanted to be free of the debts incurred by his mother for his studies,' Luthra said.
