Update: 2013-04-01 01:26 GMT
Five days after Bahujan Samaj Party leader Deepak Bharadwaj (62), was shot dead by three unidentified assailants, Delhi police has questioned the prime suspect-Nitesh, younger son of Bharadwaj and a 28-year-old woman who allegedly had  an illicit relationship with the real estate tycoon.

Deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma said, 'Nitesh and the woman friend were called at Vasant Kunj police station for questioning regarding the case.'

According to a senior police official investigating Bharadwaj's murder mystery said, 'Nitesh, Bharadwaj’s younger son with whom Ramesh Kumari (Bharadwaj's wife) used to reside in Dwarka, is one of the prime suspect among the list of people who could be behind the murder. Soon after the murder Bharadwaj's family was placed under  the scanner owing to a property dispute that Bharadwaj and his sons were involved in’.

Though Bharadwaj  and his wife, Ramesh Kumari, had had a love marriage three decades ago, the name of another woman, reportedly  his girl friend, has cropped up in Bharadwaj's murder case. 'The duo along with Nitesh were intensively quizzed for more than four hours. They have been instructed to cooperate in further investigation,' the official said.

An investigator told Millennium Post that Purushottam Rana alias Monu was the main contractor who had been hired for the contract killing of Bharadwaj on Tuesday at his 35-acre farmhouse in south Delhi’s Rajokri area. The CCTV footage recovered from the main gate of the farmhouse show the two accused, identified on Thursday as  Purushottam Rana and Sunil alias Sonu, fleeing with the Skoda car used in the crime. Both the accused have crime records. So far neither of the two  have been apprehended.

After 120 hours of long investigation, Delhi police had got a breakthrough in the case after a man identified as Amit was detained by the cops. It is alleged that Amit is the third person involved in the murder. It is suspected that he was driving the Skoda car bearing the number plate DL 3C 7062.

A senior official said, 'Amit’s brother has also been  detained. Both are residents of Jahangirpuri.'

'After the detention of the two, it is hoped that they will lead us to the other two contract killers and the person who paid them money for the murder,' he added.

According to sources, Bharadwaj's murder could be personal enmity or a property dispute. A look out notice for Purushottam and Sunil has been issued by Delhi police.
