CP shut to manage rush; cops on their toes

Massive security and traffic arrangements were made in the view of New Year celebrations especially at Connaught Place. The cops closed entry of motor vehicles after 6 pm at Connaught Place till 2 am except for those who had their residences or shops in the area. People were seen leaving their vehicles behind and huge crowd of the pedestrians walked towards CP for New Year celebrations.

More than 1,200 traffic cops were deployed at CP alone along with local police to control the rush. Massive crowd was seen at Lajpat Nagar and Saket where people gathered to celebrate the beginning of 2017. Since New Year’s Eve was on Saturday, people were seen moving to celebration points where they had pre-booked restaurants and pubs.

Traffic police was seen checking people driving their bikes or cars with alcometers to check drunken driving. The cops have already warned that strict action would be taken against those found indulged in drunken driving or creating nuisance on roads.

“We had already instructed pub and hotel owners that if their customers are not in position to drive their vehicles, proper arrangements should be made from the pub management for their safe return,” Ajai Kashyap, Special Commissioner, Traffic said on Saturday.

The cops have also warned the bikers against any misadventure on the New Year’s Eve. However, Saturday provided a bit relief for usual traffic in Delhi but reports of traffic jams came from Ashram, R K Puram Sec 18 and Madanpur Khadar.
