CP shootout: Police identify two accused, hunt on to nab them

A day after the shootout in Connaught  Place, the police have identified the absconding two accused.  The police officer, however did not reveal the identity of other two accused for the purpose of investigatoin. 

Three bike-borne assailants fired at two policemen patrolling at Shankar Market in Connaught Place on Saturday night. The police believe that the accused came to the Capital with a purpose to execute a member of rival gang. 

On Saturday, the New Delhi district police received a specific input about the presence of gangsters in Shankar Market area. All the cops deployed in the area were put on alert. 

The cops, identified as Pratik and Sandeep, posted at Barakhamba police station noticed three men on a bike near Super Bazaar. When they  were signalled to stop, the accused reversed their bike to escape from apprehension. During the chase, three of them opened fired four at the policemen. 

During the encounter, the cops managed to nab Mohammad Rizwan alias Irfan (50) near Railway Colony in Connaught Place while the other two managed to escape.

‘Rizwan is a proclaimed offender who has been involved in 20 criminal cases in Moradabad, Baghpat and Delhi, including a murder case in Jamia Nagar last year,’ SBS Tyagi, Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) said.

If sources are to be believed, Rizwan is an associate of a drug peddler in Shankar Market, whose name was not disclosed by police. He had called him to intimidate some witnesses of Bijnor, who were to depose in a case before a Delhi court on 14 October.

Further investigation is underway and raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused.
