Sensing the possibilities of a come back the governor of Kerala Sheila Dikshit into active politics, Delhi BJP president on Monday demanded CBI inquiry into ‘irregularities and bad planning’ of Connaught Place. The project was one of the most controversial development projects executed by Dikshit government which missed several deadlines and some works are still pending.

‘The Lieutenant Governor must order New Delhi Municipal Council to complete the remaining project within three months and recommend a CBI inquiry into the case as it has converted the posh market into a slum,’ said Satish Upadhayay in his sharp reaction.

‘The incomplete renovation work of Connaught Place even after the lapse of nine years is the result of unplanned renovation and corruption,’ he alleged. He further added that in the very beginning, the planners did not feel the need of creating parking facilities for the local shopkeepers and the face of the market was distorted by changing every road at parking space. Upadhyay said that it is a matter of concern that neither the shopkeepers nor the visitors are satisfied even after the execution of such a big scheme.

In a press statement he alleged that CP appears to be unplanned slum where one finds parking everywhere and still there is problem of parking. ‘Encroachments are increasing, sanitation arrangement is not good and the power supply in the VIP market of the British era is erratic. The reason of erratic power supply is the weak power infrastructure,’ added Upadhayay.
