Two city courts on Thursday asked 35 motorists, who were charged with drunk driving, to do social service for three hours daily for three days and sentenced 21 others to imprisonment till rising of the courts for the same offence. The third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts at Erramanzil here also awarded jail terms to four persons with an imprisonment ranging from two to five days.
Besides, the courts also imposed fines up to Rs 2,000 on all sixty violators, an official release from Hyderabad Police said. Cases were booked against the accused who were found riding two-wheelers and driving three-wheelers, four-wheelers and other vehicles in an inebriated state, it said.
“The police have registered 9,096 drunk driving cases, of which 1,188 motorists have been imprisoned,” the release added.
