In a significant judgment the Delhi High Court has directed the health department of Delhi government to pay Rs 3.65 lakh grant to a terminally ill poor patient within one week and also to the hospital to expedite the operation to save his life.
The order was passed by justice Vibhu Bakhru on a petition filed by wife of Anil Kumar, who has been declared to be at End Stage of Renal Disease by doctors at Safdarjung Hospital but was turned away as the family did not have money to pay the medical expenses.
‘The doctors found my kidney fit for my husband and I am ready to donate but doctors are insisting to pay Rs 3.65 lakh first for which I had already approached health department of Delhi government which is still sitting on the files,’ said Shashi, the wife.
As per government, rules a terminally ill poor patient is provided monetary assistance to meet out medical expenses if he is being treated at a government hospital.
