Councillor’s driver murder triggers gang war in Gurgaon

The body of Ashok Kumar, 25, was found in a Swift car on Basai Road, police said. Kumar worked as <g data-gr-id="49">driver</g> for his uncle  Binder Gujjar, a gangster-turned councillor. Gujjar is the councillor of ward No. 23 in the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).

Gujjar told police that Kumar was returning home after watching a film, when the assailants opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. According to the police, the incident took place around <g data-gr-id="56">2am</g> on Sunday. Police said Kumar had received five bullet injuries. 

Gujjar has alleged the involvement of Manish Khurana. Based on Gujjar’s complaint, the police have  registered an FIR under Section of 302 and 34 of the IPC against Khurana.

A few hours after Kumar’s murder, Khurana was allegedly attacked by Gujjar’s men around <g data-gr-id="42">9am</g> in Arjun Nagar area. Police suspect Gujjar’s  involvement in the attack as both <g data-gr-id="41">are</g> “enemies” for years.

Police said Khurana, who suffered a bullet in the head, also fired in retaliation. Khurana, who is allegedly linked to the Sandeep <g data-gr-id="47">Gandoli</g> gang, had contested the Gurgaon civic polls against Gujjar in 2010 but lost. <g data-gr-id="48">Gandoli</g> is currently in jail.

On Khurana’s complaint, the police lodged an FIR against Gujjar and his men. Some people have been detained for questioning.  According to police sources, Gujjar has been involved in criminal cases and also worked <g data-gr-id="46">Gandoli</g> for some time. 

Two weeks ago, Gujjar and Khurana had allegedly entered into a verbal duel, after which the latter had filed an FIR against Gujjar on September 20, police said. In this FIR, Khurana had accused Gujjar of allegedly trying to kill him.

“The case is under investigation and things are being ascertained, as this involves a history of <g data-gr-id="54">gang</g> war. It is not possible to comment on it now,” Anil Kumar, additional commissioner of police (city) told Millennium Post.

The police are yet to identify attackers involved in Kumar’s murder, but they claimed to have ascertained the motive behind the incident.  The police claimed to have identified two of the six men involved in attacking Khurana.

The two have been identified as Durgesh and Pancham, residents of Model Town in the city. The police have recovered two revolvers too from the shooters which were used in the attack.

Gujjar was attacked by some unknown assailants in <g data-gr-id="52">2011,</g> when he was contesting the municipal polls.  He had suffered seven bullet injuries, while his  associate Anil <g data-gr-id="58">Kakran</g>, who was also attacked, died on the spot. Then, too, Gujjar had accused the <g data-gr-id="59">involvrement</g> of Gandoli’s gang in the incident.
