Municipal Corporations in Delhi have locked horns with Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi, Tejendra Khanna, on increasing parking rates in the city. BJP ruled municipal corporations have decided to reject the proposal to increase parking charges in the city which is slated to be tabled in the standing committees of the three corporations this week.
'We will reject the proposal as soon as it is tabled in the meeting of the standing committee as both the standing committee and house have already unanimously rejected the proposal of the commissioner to increase the parking rates in Delhi. We have already declared our commitment to increase our revenue by curbing illegal parking in the city without putting additional burden on honest taxpayers,' said Rajesh Gehlot, chairperson of the Standing Sommittee in South DMC. The proposal to increase the parking rates in the areas is likely to be tabled for consideration of the standing committee on Tuesday.
'Its not possible to increase the parking charges as we have already finalised the budget. We are ready to face any consequence,' said Yogender Chandolia, chairman of the Standing Committee in North DMC. In accordance with the letter from the LG’s office to increase parking charges in the city, the executive is preparing a proposal to be tabled in the meeting of the standing committee on Wednesday.
