North Delhi Municipal Corporation [NDMC] has started the process of ‘attachment and acution’ of top seven property tax defaulters in its area. According to sources, the Chief Assessor and Collector of NDMC has sent the list for approval of the commissioner. The corporation has also decided to impose property tax on power distributing companies [DISCOMS] on commercial rates for their transformers and establishment on the land of the civic body.
‘We will not spare these property tax deafaulters and if they don’t turn up the properties would be auctioned to recover the tax amount,’ said Rajesh Bhatia, Chairman of High Power Property Tax Committee of NDMC. ‘We will also impose property on commercial rates on transformers installed in the parks and roads of the civic body. The DISCOMS are private companies and are engaged in profit making by fleecing people, they will not be spared,’ added Bhatia. The corporation is also planning to bring the properties of Railway in the tax net under factor-2 category at lower rate. So far, DISCOMS were also paying the tax in the factor-2 category.
However, the officers of NDMC did not reveal the names of the properties for which the process of ‘attachment and auction’ has been started but Millennium Post has identified 11 such vulnerable properties which have highest property tax pending against them and will feature in the list. These property don’t have any court case pending so they are most vulnerable.
