Two days after four persons, posing as Central Bureau of Investigation officers on a surprise raid, duped the salesmen of a jewellery shop in Central Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area and escaped with diamond jewellery worth around Rs 15 lakh on Saturday, Delhi police officials say, that they are still probing the matter. No arrests have been made in the case yet.
The incident, took place when the victims were returning to the store after receiving a consignment of diamond jewellery worth around Rs. 40 lakh from a supplier in Karol Bagh. ‘Footage from the CCTV cameras installed outside the metro station in the area is being examined, and we are trying to trace the accused,’ said a police official.
Pawan Kumar, one of the salesmen at the store, in his complaint told the police that on Saturday evening, his employer Karan Sharma had sent him to Karol Bagh with his colleague, Abhay, to meet a diamond supplier and collect some jewellery from him. ‘The two took the Metro to Karol Bagh where diamond supplier Surendra Soni gave them a bag containing nine packets of jewellery,’ said an officer.
Abhay and Pawan reached Chandni Chowk Metro station, where a man asked them to stop.
‘The man introduced himself as a CBI officer and said he wanted to check the contents of the bag, as the CBI had received inputs that bombs were being planted in the Chandi Chowk area.
In the meantime, three more men who also claimed to be CBI officers arrived at the scene.
While one of them engaged Abhay in a discussion, others checked his bag. When the victims reached the shop they found that three out of nine packets of diamond were missing.
