Cops take action after our report

Update: 2013-03-09 00:33 GMT
A day after Millennium Post published a first person account on molestation, Delhi police became active and got down to cracking the case as soon as possible.

The investigating officer contacted me to know the exact location of the crime scene.

And when I provided them with the information, the cops started inquiring me about available CCTVs and their locations. Personally, I don’t feel that it’s my duty to provide the information that should be ideally collected by the cops themselves.

Since I want culprits be caught soon, I informed them about the presence of 12 CCTVs in the stretch from Surya Nagar to Mansarovar Park.

Later, in the evening, I was called at Seema Puri police station to identify the duo accused. After spending more than two hours watching the CCTV footages of 12  cameras, I recognised myself and the duo. Unfortunately, none of the CCTVs could capture the culprits, who have been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in futherance of common intention), properly.

Despite several cameras only blurred images were available.

Delhi police must install high resolution cameras for effective identification.

But I am happy that police is finally taking some action.

V V Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police (north-east) promised me that he will do his best to nab them as soon as possible, not only because the incident involved a journalist, but because it could have happened to anyone.
