Cops recover 34.5 metric tonnes of steel, Rs 5 lakhs in cash

Delhi police on Tuesday recovered 34.5 metric tonnes of reinforced steel and cash amounting to Rs 5 lakhs after questioning ten persons involved in misappropriation of goods and cash belonging to their company.

According to the police on 14 February, Rakesh Rai, administrative officer, ‘FEMC Pratibha’, working as a sub contractor for DMRC filed a complaint regarding theft of 34.405 metric tonnes of reinforced steel.

A total of 10 trucks, duly loaded with reinforced steel (5 trucks from SAIL and 5 trucks from Mahindra) were to reach the construction site on the intervening night of 11 and 12 February.

However, only 9 trucks reached the site. One truck (HR-38-2505) that was loaded with 32 mm reinforced steel weighing (34.405 metric ton) entered the site without the product.

The complainant alleged that store manager, M Jitendra Prasad, senior engineer Rachit Bhardwaj, time keeper Sachin Kaushik, store helper, Ranjan Kumar, junior engineer, Kanhiya, store assistant, Narendra Mishra, security supervisor Rajiv Jha and security supervisor Raj Kumar Pathak, were suspected to be involved in the misappropriation of the said goods.

During the investigation, enquiries were from made from the concerned staff of the company and 10 employees were arrested subsequently. During their interrogation, it was revealed that accused, had sold the reinforced steel to one Santosh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Jindal Colony, Samalkha, for Rs 6.38 lacs, of which Rs 5.09 lacs was recovered from the accused.
