Earlier, Delhi Police had organised various interaction programs for the people of northeast, residing in the Capital. However, most of the people have complained that interaction programmes are not a solution to the racial discrimination. ‘Delhi police must rather start a campaign to make people aware
we are not outsiders’, said Kritz Lama, a resident in Munirka of south Delhi.
On Friday, Robin Hibu, in-charge of Delhi Police’s northeast cell said, ‘The interaction of all the communities at a particular platform will curb hostility against northeast people.’
Majority of north-eastern people live in south Delhi and it has also come to light that maximum complaints of racial discrimination are reported from south districts.
‘Looking at the rising crime graph there is an urgent need to start inter-community interaction programs in southern range. A meeting is likely to be held in the near future to discuss the functioning of proposed inter-community campaign,’ a senior police official said.
The NE cell of police is also planning an awareness campaign among the members of the community on over-consumption of alcohol and drug de-addiction.
