Four men have been arrested from outer Delhi’s Rohini for alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old woman at gunpoint on Thursday. The main accused knew the victim, and raped her along with friends at a house in Shalimar Bagh.

The woman levelled allegations of gang rape against her friend and three of his accomplices in Rohini Sector 15. However, when KN Katju Marg police registered an FIR on her complaint, she wanted to withdraw the case.

In her complaint, the woman had said that her friend, Kripal Singh, a resident of Pitampura, established physical relations with her by promising to marry her. The woman, who works in a travel agency, alleged that recently Kripal came to her place along with three of his friends Gaurav, Monu and Jatin, and allegedly raped her.

According to the police, she also alleged that on 23 January Kripal and Gaurav came to her place and threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the rape.

The police have lodged a case of gang rape under Section 376 (2)(G) and 506 of IPC at police station KN Katju Marg and have arrested Kripal and Gaurav.

‘Kripal has studied upto Class 10 and works with a transporter in Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar while Gaurav is a taxi driver,’ said a police official.

On Friday the woman told media persons that she had levelled these allegations because Kripal had went back on his promise to marry her and wished to take the complaint back. However, the police were not sure what to do with the woman’s complaint.

‘It’s too early to say what will ultimately happen in this case. It will depend on the woman’s statement. We can get her statement recorded before a magistrate as per Section 164 CrPC procedure and take further action as per her statement. The arrested would be released if the case is nullified,’ said a senior police officer.
