Noida police have arrested a gangster who had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head and was wanted in around four dozen cases of murder, loot and kidnapping in Delhi and NCR.
According to the police, he was the mastermind of a bomb blast during panchayat elections in 2009 Muzaffarnagar district, in which mobile timer was used to activate the bomb. The police have arrested Vinod Bawala, 48, and his associate Sudhir Malick, 40, from Salempur area in Greater Noida police station on Monday evening.
‘The police received information that they would be coming to Greater Noida for extortion.’ said Preetinder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Noida. ‘He was absconding for over eight years and had an award of Rs 1 lakh on his head. The government was ven considering a proposal to increase his award from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh’ added Singh.
A resident of Kinoni village in Muzaffarnagar district, the accused Vinod Kumar was named as ‘Bawla’ (mad) by the local police for his involvement in several murder cases.
According to the police he has over 17 cases of murder on his head. His area of crime was Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Delhi and adjoining parts of Haryana.
‘We have recovered one mauser pistol, one 9 mm pistol and several cartridges from their possession,’ said B R Zaid, station officer of Greater Noida police station. According to the police team, they flagged the vehicle in civil dress and overpowered them.
