Cops arrest two for phishing money

While one is an engineer, the other is a science graduate. They cheated a senior doctor of Ram Manahor Lohia Hospital of Rs 30,000. Police revealed that to arrest the accused, they disguised as family of the girl to whom one of the accused was planning to get married.

Investigators said that while Sawan was a Chemical Engineer, Manish was pursuing Maths Hons from a private college. Residents of Jharkhand, both the accused posing as bank officials took debit/credit card information of people on the pretext of verification and cheated gullible people to earn quick money.

Investigators added that the accused used Paytm Mobile solutions to transfer the cheated amount to other bank accounts in Jharkhand, and then used to withdraw the cheated amount from ATMs.
On June 21, a senior doctor of the RML hospital reported at North Avenue police station that he received a call from an SBI official saying that his credit card has been blocked. To get the card unblocked, the complainant would have to give his card details. 

Thinking that the call came from a genuine official, the complainant gave the information. Through the CVV and OTP, the accused had made transactions worth Rs 30,000. Within minutes of giving his card details, the complainant got a message that Rs 30,000 has been debited in four installements. However, by the time the accused were to make another transaction, the complainant got his card blocked and reported the matter to the cops.

During investigation, a team of the Crime Branch and local police found that the amount from the victim’s account was transferred through “Paytm Mobile Solutions” to a bank account pertaining to SBI Branch situated at Deogarh, Jharkhand. During further investigation, the said transactions were conducted through different IDs of “Paytm Mobile Solutions”, which were found registered on different mobile phone numbers bearing fake IDs.

Through technical surveillance, cops traced the accused to Jharkhand. Raids were conducted there 
and on July 12 and both the accused were arrested.
