The Station Head Officer (S.H.O) of Shakarpur police station was sent to police lines by Delhi Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, on Monday. The S.H.O has been accused of mishandling a clash that took place on Saturday between Congress and BJP workers, in which 12 people were injured.
Deputy commissioner of police (east), Prabhakar, said, 'Till further orders by the Delhi Commissioner, the S.H.O has been sent to the police lines. Prima facie of investigation shows that the concerned officer was not able to handle the situation in a proper manner. The orders will continue till the pending inquiry is completed.'
At least 12 people were injured after the war of words between the two political parties continued at various public functions, rallies and protest marches. The Congress government has called the incident ‘planned with an aim to badly hurt a Delhi government minister and a member of the Parliament'.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, CLP Spokesperson and 4th term legislator Mukesh Sharma said, 'The opposition in the capital is scared to take note of surging crowds in development-oriented government functions being addressed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her ministerial colleagues and MPs.'
He alleged that the opposition party 'deployed paid goondas to exhibit their party support in the locality'.
Both Congress and BJP party workers traded charges of instigating violence and were injured in the incident at Laxmi Nagar on Saturday, where Irrigation and Flood Control Minister A K Walia had gone to lay the foundation stone for a sewage line.
A K Walia said,'During the violence, I rang up the SHO and asked him to increase the security cover, as there was information of possible trouble. Before reaching the venue I again called the SHO, but when I reached the spot, my security team told me to stay back. I saw the BJP councillor's men attacking Congress party workers, before the the police intervened.
It has been claimed that no resident was involved in the violence and it was triggered by supporters of East Municipal Corporation leader of the House, B B Tyagi.
