An unexpected confrontation between a cop and a history-sheeter, at southeast Delhi’s Bhogal area, landed both in a hospital on Friday night. While the cop is presently recovering from a wound inflicted on his hand by a meat chopper, the history sheeter is in a stable condition after receiving a bullet injury on the knee.
According to the police, the incident was reported around 10.30 pm when the police official, constable Rajesh, ran into the history sheeter, Sanjay, and two of his associates outside a cold drink stall in Bhogal’s Shastri Market. Sanjay is presently wanted in as many as seven robbery cases in the area. On seeing Rajesh, Sanjay and his associates ran in different directions. The constable chose to chase Sanjay, who ran towards the Jangpura lane on Mathura Road.
When constable Rajesh finally got hold of him and asked him to surrender, Sanjay pulled out a meat chopper, which he had hidden inside his shirt, and attacked Rajesh on his chest. Rajesh tried to defend himself and ended up with a deep gash on his right forearm. When Sanjay tried to flee again, the constable pulled out his service revolver and fired on Sanjay’s lower half. The bullet hit is thigh and both ended up collapsing a few metres away from each other.
The a head constable, who had received Rajesh’s message, reached the spot and overpowered Sanjay. A case was registered at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station and both were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where they are presently been treated, said a police official. However, Sanjay’s associates are yet to be nabbed by the police.
