Conversion of drain into parking lot leads to waterlogging in Ggn’s Nathupur

The significance of Nathupur village in making Gurgaon the Millennium City can be gauged from the fact that lands acquired from the villagers of Nathupur are today developed into posh residential area of DLF Phase-3 and buzzing commercial areas of DLF cyber city that contains office areas of the top companies of the world like Google and Microsoft.

Nathupur today, however, is also getting a fair share of the blame of transformation of ‘Gurugram into Gurujam’ as the drainage system of Nathupur which once existed has been levelled and turned into a parking space for multinational companies.

Earlier too, there have been complaints that how the area’s drainage system was levelled and converted into a real estate property. Today, the drainage system at Nathupur seems non-existential thereby causing misery to commuters who use the area during monsoon season.

Even as there have been huge investments by private and public agencies in the development of Cyber City with projects of developing a rapid metro, construction of flyovers and widening of roads, each monsoon witnesses choc-o-blocs in the area.

According to the local villagers of Nathupur, the drainage system in the area was intentionally converted into a parking space as one of the buildings had a direct view of the open drainage system and there was a complaint by the top companies of the building of the smell and dirt caused by the drain.

Speaking on the civic apathy of the area experienced during monsoons, one of the villagers said: “Not only the Cyber City area but even parts of DLF Phase-3 and the interiors of Nathupur village get severely affected when rain comes. Forget rain for an hour, the area is inundated after a small shower of even 15 minutes.”

“You cannot have such large area dedicated to a parking space that too mostly for MNCs,” the villager added.
