Congress on Saturday said it would respect the verdict given by voters in the recently-held assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana whose result will be declared on Sunday.
The party also said that it would go with the decision of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who want the assembly elections to be held as per schedule.
‘We believe in democracy and we are ready to accept whatever verdict the voters of these two
states have given. Whatever the verdict is we will hold introspection after the results are declared,’ senior Congress leader and J&K Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz said here. Commenting on the exit polls that predict a majority for BJP in Maharashtra, Soz said, ‘The situation would have been much different if NCP and Congress would have fought the elections together, but even the BJP and the Shiv Sena had to split before the elections.’
While accepting that there were corrupt elements within the party in Maharashtra, Soz said, ‘The CM of Maharashtra is a very honest politician, but yes there can be some corrupt elements within the government there.’ When asked to comment on waving of Islamic State flags in Kashmir, Soz said media must not pay heed to the acts of ‘some stupid elements.’
