‘Prime minister Narendra Modi’s statement at the BJP National Executive on India’s position in WTO and the claim of BJP government alone having protected India’s poor farmers and the right to food security is partisan, misleading and factually incorrect,’ said former commerce minister Anand Sharma on Sunday.
Sharma noted, ‘This allegation that UPA government had surrendered India’s right and farmers’ interest at the Bali Ministerial of the WTO is astonishing, irresponsible and false propaganda.’ He went on to say that an impression has been created by the BJP led government that it was India’s principled position to protect its right to food security which forced India to take a tough stance.
This is nothing but one-upmanship and a claim which is orchestrated for political gains and misleading.
The issue of public stockholding for food security was actually forced by India at Bali Ministerial meeting and the same were secured and protected.
