Congress has always bowed to pressure from communal forces: SP chief

Update: 2014-02-08 23:23 GMT
Condemning Congress party Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the UPA Government withdrew the anti-Communal Violence Bill on the behest of the BJP and other communal forces.

‘’The act of the Congress led UPA-II government leads to suspicion that the Bill was withdrawn only due to opposition by the BJP because all other parties were in favour of the Bill,’’ he said.

Addressing a press conference here Yadav demanded tabling of Anti-Communal Violence Bill in the Parliament. ‘’Congress has always bowed to the pressure of the communal forces. When the entire opposition including the Left Parties were supporting the Bill why they ran away. Congress should clarify the reason for withdrawing the bill,’’ he said.

When asked if UP government will bring such anti-communal Bill in the state assembly, Yadav parried the question saying the present government had already implemented most of the provisions of the Bill after the Muzaffarnagar riots.

‘’We have not spared a single person involved in the riots and those who are evading arrests will be punished severely,’’ he said.

Yadav said that the recent riots in Muzaffarnagar was controlled in just two days and record compensation was distributed among the victims.’’ About 2000 riots victims were distributed Rs 100 crores besides giving them government jobs and Rs 1 lakh for the marriage of their daughters,’’ he said.

When asked if the Samajwadi Party will withdraw support from the UPA government over the anti-communal violence bill issue, he said this government is just for another two months so what is the need of withdrawing support at this juncture.

Yadav however, refused to commit whether the party will give candidates against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha seats respectively.’’ Let see. But they have always given candidate against me,’’ he said.

Claiming that third front government at the centre is the only option after the Lok Sabha elections he said the regional parties have already started the process for setting up a platform for the formation of the next government.

Expressing his satisfaction on the functioning of his son’s Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh said that no government in the country has done such good work for the people like his government.

‘’Even Narendra Modi shied away to answer my question on development comparison between UP and Gujarat. Has Gujarat people have the facilities of free medical, education, unemployment allowances and laptops for their children,’’ he said. Yadav defended the Samajwadi Party government in UP over the law and order issue and other controversial matters. ‘

’ The law and order issue is better than any other states in the country except for some North-eastern states,’’ he claimed.
