Two time sitting MP from East Delhi and senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said Congress suffered huge defeat in Lok Sabha election due to failure of the Central government that could not convey the people of their achievements. While talking to Sunil Thapliyal
Millennium Post the senior Congress leader said the BJP and other opponents were aggressive about targeting the government while the Congress remained mum.
He, however, avoided to mention the name of the leaders but indicated that the Centre had committed mistakes while dealing with important issues in the recent past. ‘For the past few years, especially since 2011, the way we deal with Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev movements, left us nowhere. It sent a negative impression among the masses which cost us in this election,’ said Dikshit.
However, he has admitted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had eaten into his vote share. On his campaign trail, Dikshit was confident to win the election. He also claimed that AAP has lost its charisma due to their poor performance in their 49-day government but after the election results were out he acknowledged that they miscalculated the Modi factor in Delhi and across India too.
He further stated that the Congress has to work hard to regain their vote bank. ‘We lost our vote bank to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Winning and losing the election is part of the game but we have to work from now onwards for the coming elections.
The last assembly elections were a debacle for the Congress party. The AAP candidate from East Delhi is Raj Mohan Gandhi, while BJP is being represented by Mahesh Giri who won the election.
