Congress workers on Sunday protested outside all metro railway stations here against the proposed fare hike and demanded an immediate audit of the project.
The protest, led by Congress MLA Naseem Khan, will continue till Tuesday. The party workers are also running a signature campaign which would be submitted to the representatives Central and state government and the Governor, Khan said. The Supreme Court had recently allowed the operator of Mumbai’s metro railway to implement the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) for a fare band of Rs 10-110. Addressing a gathering outside <g data-gr-id="13">Asalfa</g> station of Metro service route, Khan said, “If fares are hiked to such steep level then Metro will be out of reach of common man, specially the college students. During our government, Metro had to fix the fares between Rs 9 and Rs 13 and as soon as we were out of power, the fares went up astronomically to Rs 40.”
