The Congress Councillors, who had earlier created ruckus in the proceedings of the House of MCDs, threatened to halt the working of civic agencies. The protesters, including senior Congress leaders, raised the pension and salary issue before the councillors of the ruling party and the officials blaming them to have enhanced the crisis for ulterior motives.

The ruling BJP, which is in under pressure due to unprecedented delay, assured to solve the crisis as soon as possible. Notably, the corporations have not paid pensions for the last couple of years and have made delays in salary disbursement since January this year.

Addressing the dharnas and demonstrations at Central zone, DPCC president Ajay Maken said that ever since the BJP came to power in the MCDs, corruption has reached new highs and there has been shortage of funds in the MCDs to carry out its activities. The dharnas were organised at the Central zone, City zone, Civil Lines zone, Karol Bagh zone, Najafgarh zone, Narela zone, Rohi zone, Sadar Paharganj zone, Shahdara North zone, Shahdara South zone and Shahdara West zone.

Around 1,500 to 2,000 Congress workers participated in the dharnas in each zone. The Congress workers also burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrieal, for their total failure on all fronts.

JP Agarwal, former President of the Delhi Congress, said that they have decided to take the matter to road by intensifying the protests. She also alleged that the pension fund is being diverted for other purposes. “The ruling party is not taking the matter seriously despite repeated reminders. We have protested against it many times. If it fails to resolve the issue soon, we will intensify our agitation,” said Agarwal, as she joined the massive protest at Shahdra South zone of East MCD.
