The Congress continued their protests against power outages and water scarcity, blaming the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Friday.
A large number of Congress workers also created a major traffic jam at the Ghonda Chowk, and burnt effigies of Union power minister Piyush Goel and former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal.
The Congress workers broke empty earthen pots and raised slogans against the frequent power outages and water scarcity, demanding immediate relief for residents.
The demonstration was jointly led by Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh, former MP Jai Praakash Agarwal and Congress chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma.
The women protestors broke mud pots to vent their ire against the severe water shortages and shouted slogans against the BJP and AAP.
Mukesh Sharma said the Congress will intensify its agitation to find a solution to the power and water crisis, and the party has advised its workers to start an agitation to distribute candles to the people. The agitation will be known as ‘Har Har Mombatti; Ghar Ghar Mombatti’. The Congress has been agitating in different parts of the city against inconsistent power and water supply for the past few days. It also staged a protest on Thursday in south Delhi’s Khanpur area.
The city’s power supply was affected following a severe storm on 30 May which caused many lines of the Northern Grid to snap or trip.
