The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Monday booked Jharkhand Ispat Private Limited and its chairman Ram Swarup Rungta. The Jharkhand-based industrialist is also a prominent leader of the state Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Cases have been registered against them for alleged misrepresentations and false claims made in the applications submitted for the procurement of the coal blocks.
Sources said that besides, Ram Swarup Rungta, the firm’s director, Ram Chandra Rungta have also been booked.
‘They allegedly misrepresented facts by showing the worth of their firm much more than what it was,’ the CBI sources said. CBI carried out searches in 11 places including Ghaziabad, Ramgarh Cantonement, Hesla in district Hazaribagh, Ranchi, New Delhi, Kolkata and Varanasi at the factory premises and offices of the company. Searches were also carried out at the residence of its directors.
Sources said that Rungtas will soon be questioned by the CBI. CBI sources said that Jharkhand Ispat Private Limited, a company of RC Rungta Group, was allotted North Dhadu coal block on 13 January, 2006 for its sponge iron plant.
They said the agency detected several irregularities in the allotment after which a case was filed against it and unknown public officials. ‘The involvement of unknown public servants cannot be ruled out in the case,’ the CBI sources said. The sources also said details of the FIR could not be revealed as searches were still going on at Varanasi, Hazaribagh, Kolkata, Ranchi and Delhi.
The agency had earlier also booked some companies for alleged cheating, forgery and misrepresentation of facts in their applications for coal blocks.
