The first batch of 800 Muslims from Delhi left for holy pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Monday and were seen off by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the airport.
The pilgrims have been provided with SIM and ATM cards by the Delhi Government so that they can get in touch easily with their family members back home.
Dikshit said the Haj pilgirms should pray for peace, progress and prosperity of the country and wished them a safe and happy journey.
‘Delhi Government has been providing courtesy and usual assistance to pilgrims of all religions and Delhi is known for its composite culture,’ she said.
Chairperson of Central Haj Committee Moshina Kidwai said a permanent guest house for Hajis at Mecca is likely to be constructed to ensure convenient and safe place for their stay during pilgrimage. She also presented guides containing all information and logistics tips to them.
