Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to announce a special assembly session in first week of February and the government will use the session to bring the promised Jan Lokpal Bill as the committee, entrusted with the responsibility of drafting the Jan Lokpal Bill, submitted the draft the Bill on Friday.
Saying that his government’s priority was to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, the chief minister indicated that the Delhi assembly’s special session will be held in the first week of February .
The Bill will first have to be put up before the Cabinet and get its approval after which it can be tabled in assembly for debate. After the Bill is cleared by the Delhi assembly, it will be sent to the Central government for approval.
The code of conduct for General Elections is expected to be implemented in the last week of February or in the first week of March, after which the Bill can’t be passed till a new government takes charge of the country.
Responding to a query on Lokayukta, Kejriwal said that an anti-corruption ombudsman will be a totally independent body and even the chief minister’s office will have no influence over it.
