Delhi government on the occasion of Diwali has announced Rs 85 crore bonanza for the city poor.
Cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide free filled LPG cylinder for the first time to the beneficiaries under ‘Kerosene-free Delhi Scheme’ and also decided to grant subsidy on three additional LPG cylinders for all 3,56,395 beneficiaries under the scheme.
The beneficiaries including AAY/BPL/JRC kerosene oil user ration card holders, as they would be provided LPG cylinders, two burner gas stoves, Suraksha rubber pipes and blue booklets.
An official said,’In order to make the Kerosene-free scheme fully operational and purposeful for the beneficiaries, the government has decided to provide free filled LPG cylinders for the first time to all beneficiaries’.
City government would release an amount of Rs 14.22 crore more for this purpose as a filled in cylinder costs Rs 399. Hence, the total expenditure on the part of government would go up from Rs 71.69 crore to Rs 85.91 crore.
After the cabinet meeting, Dikshit stated that her government is sensitive to the needs of the weaker sections.
The government has further decided to grant subsidy on three additional LPG cylinders to the beneficiaries under Kerosene-free Delhi scheme.
The cost of subsidy on account of three additional cylinders would be borne by the city government. It may be recalled that the union government announced to provide six subsidized cylinders to every family in the country.
Keeping in view the economic condition of the beneficiaries, Delhi government reiterated that it would facilitate additional three cylinders to them by meeting the cost of subsidy.
Meanwhile,Delhi will become the first kerosene-free state in the country with implementation of Delhi kerosene-free scheme, which was earlier approved by the cabinet on 26 June 2012.
