In pursuance of the National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG) of the Ministry of Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, has been entrusted to play a strategic role to augment water flow through forestry interventions and to treat the water through biological filters.
It is a two- phase programme – project development of 6-8 months and project implementation of 5 -10 years. The project development phase envisages <g data-gr-id="21">preparation</g> of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the initial five years.
Following the action plan for the first phase, the first consultation meeting in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and <g data-gr-id="27">Jharkahnd</g> were conducted in <g data-gr-id="28">Dehardun</g>, Allahabad and Patna on April-May. These meetings helped identify issues specific and common to the states. The meeting with West Bengal is now scheduled in mid-July.
The national-level stakeholders' meet for Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation on forestry interventions will be organised in FRI on July 2-3. All five stakeholder states – Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will present their detailed plan of work.
Union Ministers Uma Bharti, Prakash Javadekar, <g data-gr-id="26">Sarbanand</g> Sonowal and Shripad Naik will also be present and share their concerns. Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat will inaugurate the national meet.
