Clash between two groups over area possession in S 24 Pgns

Tension ran high at Paschim Raghunathpur village of Joynagar in South 24-Parganas following a clash that broke out between two local groups over the possession of the area.

Many from both the sides received injuries in the incident which occurred on Thursday morning. The incident, however, started on Wednesday night when some members of one group engaged in a quarrel with the others.

A pedestrian was also injured when the two groups hurled bombs at each other. The local people shut their doors and windows as the gang members of the both the groups were up in arms against each other and hurled crude bombs.

After being informed by some local people, a huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to control the situation.

RAF was deployed at the spot as the situation was serious. A police picket has been set up in the area. Police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection so far.

It was learnt that some miscreants had burst some bombs on a ground of a primary school when classes were going on. Panic broke out among the students after they heard the sound of bursting some bombs. They were running from one side to the other.

This escalated further tension at the Katherpole area a few meters away from the place where the incident occurred on Wednesday night.

The clash further broke out on Thursday morning when both the gang members again assembled in a nearby area.

A local resident of Bagmari area, Anwar Ali was going to the market when he was caught in the area with both the groups hurling bombs at each other.

He was also injured in the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. Many of the gang members were also injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police have started a probe into the incident and interrogating some local people. Raids are being made to nab the culprits.
