Aspirant, Sunil Kumar, said, ‘This was our ninth protest and our issue has already been raised in both the houses. Also almost everybody in government knows about our issue. However nothing has been yet’.
Nitin Singh, another aspirant said, ‘Police used water cannons to disperse the protestors, who were demanding a change in the UPSC syllabus, a review of the examination pattern, and inclusion of certain subjects in the syllabus, which were dropped this year. Later the students were taken to parliament street police station where they are detained’.
Singh added, ‘Our demands include, three fresh attempts and a three year age relaxation be provided to all categories of students including SC,ST ,OBC and General category students, caught in transition period of 2011 and 2013, and reduction of weightage given to Civil Service Aptitude Test examination. We’ve also demanded that the government take steps to stop discrimination against candidates with regional and rural background.’
‘The examination pattern is discriminatory. This should be reviewed,’ a protesting student said before being whisked away by the police. The winter session of parliament, which began on 5 December is scheduled to end on 20 December.
A protester said, ‘UPSC is behaving in a discriminatory and arbitrary manner against rural and regional language candidates. Upon introduction of major changes in 2011 and 2013, no attempt was made over the relaxation of age, which was given to candidates on the precedent set in 1979.
‘For the first time in 1979, when changes were carried out in civil services examination, three fresh attempts and age relaxation was provided to all candidates’, he said.
