These officials will be penalised for their failure to perform their duties. Earlier all government agencies would trade allegations against each other for water-logging in the city. However, agencies are now under the total jurisdiction of the Lieutenant-Governor.

There are 153 points in the city where water-logging is a perennial problem during the rainy season, which triggers severe traffic jams and flooding in various localities. ‘The aim of this move is a quick redressal of those water-logging points, which brings the national capital to a standstill during the rains,’ said Dharampal, secretary, state Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
With the monsoons a couple of months away, Dharampal will also hold a review meeting with officials from the Flood and Irrigation Department, Public Works Department and various municipal bodies.

Areas which witness heavy water-logging in the city include ITO, Delhi Gate, Vikash Marg, Kalekhan, ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Munirka, Dwarka, Dhaula Kuan, Azad Market, Moolchand underpass and Lajpat Nagar. On 16 April this month, the Delhi High Court had summoned the chief secretary over the government’s lack of alacrity on the water-logging issue and sought an explanation in this regard.

Meanwhile, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC), as part of its Summer Action Plan has already started cleaning and de-silting work in industrial areas like GT Karnal Road, Badli Industrial Area, Kirti Nagar, Mangolpuri Industrial Area, Phase-I, Udyog Nagar, DSIIDC Nangloi, Jhilmil, Patparganj, Naraina Industrial Area, Wazirpur, Okhla, Narela and Bawana Industrial Area.
