Civic bodies of the national capital are to add 120 more authorised parking sites in the city. These are parking sites that have been freed from the clutches of parking mafias who had been operating it so long  without the approval of the corporations. 'We are committed to increasing the revenue of the corporation by increasing our resources.

Increasing parking charges would be a burden on honest tax payers,' said Sanjay Surjan, chairman of the standing committee in East Delhi Municipal Corporation. The corporation had only 12 parking sites in May 2012, but increased  the number to 30 in 2012-13. 'We also have the Delhi traffic police’s approval for 45 new parking sites. The tendering process will soon be completed and these parking sites will be dedicated to public through contractors,' added Surjan. East DMC has added the maximum number of 63 new parking sites  in the city which is likely to increase its revenue to Rs 85 lakh per month.

The revenue of the corporation from parking in 2011-12 was just Rs 9.0 lakh per month, which is now Rs 35 lakh per month.
North DMC has added 44 new parking sites in its area. The corporation had 72 parking sites which will now be increased to 116. 'We have also finalised a list of 25 parking sites which has been sent to Delhi traffic police for approval,' said Ram Kishan Singhal, chairman of the standing committee in North DMC.

The corporation's revenue has also increased from Rs 60 lakh per month in 2011-12 to the present Rs 1.40 crore. The corporation has recently allocated around 60 sites under its new parking policy in which server-linked hand-held devices, uniform for parking attendants, map of the parking site and CCTV cameras are mandatory.

'Those bidding for the new parking sites are installing these apparatus at their sites and regular monitoring is also being done,' added Singh. South DMC has also sent a list of 50 parking sites to the Delhi traffic police for approval. 'We have directed the department to identify more parking sites where parking is being done without the permission of the corporation.

These sites would be identified and allocated to contractors after approval of Delhi traffic police,' said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of Standing Committee in South DMC.
The erstwhil MCD had only 121 parking sites in the city but the three new corporations collectively have 185 parking sites and are in the process to add 120 more.
