The Moti Bagh incident, where a girl was raped in a car when she was returning to Noida from Delhi, has again raised the question of women safety in the Capital. Most girls whom Millennium Post reached out to, preferred that a safe transport back home is preferable than a good job with no transport facility.
Huma, a resident of Jamia Nagar in Delhi, has recently left a Multinational Company where she worked in the HR department. She is busy giving interviews with various companies in Noida but surprisingly she was told by a company that they might not provide her a drop to her house in Jamia Nagar as the company doesn’t have a cab for the area.
“They asked me to choose dropping till Maharani Bagh or Sarita Vihar and managing myself after that. This is ridiculous! Can you imagine how unsafe it is to be stranded at a bus stop at around 11 pm. They are offering me good salary but I cannot compromise on my security,” says Huma.
Huma further recalls how her bag was snatched from Noida by bikers when she was returning from work in the evening.
“It was a traumatic experience. They snatched my bag near the Sector 20 police station and did shopping from my debit card. I felt so helpless that time,” she recalled.
Tamanna, a resident of Delhi said: “My parents would never allow me to come home at late hours without a cab till my home. Salary is not bigger than the security. Less salary but with better safety and trustworthy measures would do.”
Nikita, who has her office at ITO said: “Safe transportation is the basic security measure. If I am not dropped to my home safely, I would quit the job. It’s unsafe even in the evenings sometimes.”
These women were a few among many who were contacted by the newspaper and by and large, all of them echoed the same concerns.
A safe and proper transportation back home from work has now become an utmost important prerogative. Women of Delhi opine that a safe return to home is much important than a job with fat salary but no proper facility to get back home.
